Sopranos Restaurant (not the piano bar) Cuisine: Generally Italian Seatings: Lunch and Dinner Pricing: $$ to $$$ Location: This restaurant is located just above Paris Bistro. You will find it at the top of the escalator. There are many steps to reach the level of the escalator and so approaching it from behind the Paris Bistro would make it easier, although you would need to walk through the Paris Bistro to get to the escalator. There may be alternate routes but I am not familiar with any elevators to reach that level. There may be an elevator within the Sonesta Maho that may take you to that upper level. It is definitely worth checking out if handicapped as there are many more restaurants along that level as well. Food: Although we have never had lunch there, their dinners have never been disappointing. This is not high end cuisine but is worth every penny of what they do charge. The cuisine is generally Italian and thus you have your typical Italian dishes like Penne a la vodka or Pizza. We have enjoyed eating the Antipasto for 2 and then share a pizza. This tends to fill us up. I have had the penne a la vodka and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Like I said though, it is not high end Italian and so you should expect the food to reflect the price but we have frequented this restaurant multiple times during our 2 weeks and enjoyed it each time. - see our updated notes below. Experience: When we haven't been very hungry but wanted to go to something a little more upscale than, let's say, the Fashion Cafe, this has always been our choice. The Antipasto for 2 has very nice selections of items on this large platter and then having the pizza right after has left us feeling very full. Keep in mind that we are not large portion eaters and so for the average appetite, this combo works well. If you like dessert, their gelato is very good. Tip: We have gone at all times of the evening and never had trouble getting seated but if it's hot and humid or windy, ask to be seated inside. That may cause a wait but worth it as it is air conditioned. UPDATE Our December 2008 Experience: As I stated previously, the chef can make or break a restaurant and during our December trip the food was to say the least mediocre. The pizza was undercooked and their antipasto was hardly creative, basically blah. It could have been an off night but from other reviews I have read, this may not be the case. This is a shame as this place had good possibilities but with poor hiring, may have ruined their initially good reputation.
