Paris Bistro

Cuisine: French

Seatings: Dinner Only

Pricing: $$$ to $$$$

Location: This restaurant is located near the Sonesta Maho and is just above street level.  From the front there are many steps to reach the restaurant level so unless approached from the back where there may be less steps involved, a handicapped person would have some difficulty.  The restaurant is made up of a gaily decorated gazebo type of structure that overlooks the bustling street of Maho.  The ambiance is very nice and the tables are dressed beautifully for a nice evening out. The hosts are always above par and will make you feel comfortable from the minute you sit down until you're ready to leave.  We have never felt ignored like one may experience in other French restaurants on the island.

Food: The food can be priced from moderate to expensive, depending on the selection.  They also offer a specially priced menu which includes a choice of select appetizers, select entrees, and then any dessert from their menu.  Coffee and drinks are not included in the pricing.  They offer a sampling platter of gelatos or sorbets. The last time we were there, they were homemade and absolutely delicious to the point of decadent.  If possible see if they will combine 1 sorbet with 2 gelatos.  Make sure you give a sweet smile and I'm sure they will accommodate.

Experience:  We have found the quality of the food to be different from year to year which brings me to assume that their Chef's may change quite often.  I have had a delicious appetizer one year and then the next, the same presentation but a totally different taste.  I have also experienced a difference in presentation each year although their presentations are always very nice.  I would recommend being careful as to what you order.  One entree could be absolutely delicious but another, just OK.  We have never been disappointed and so I would say that it's worth going.

UPDATE

December 2008 Trip Experience:  The food was exceptional on our December 2008 trip.  I especially enjoyed their inexpensively priced Lemon Chicken entree!  Although I was not looking to spend alot that evening and thought I would get an average meal for the money, I was certainly surprised how much I enjoyed this dish.  It seemed to taste like a cross between Chicken Marsala and Lemon Chicken.  The sauce was delicious and not thin and watery.  An excellent choice for those that want a light meal without losing quality!
